They came out ready to convince the audience they were someone other than themselves. Each child did an impersonation of one of Latin America’s well-known contemporary and legacy musical artists. Pedroza and Albert Earn Top Scholarships May 3 2024 Congratulations to Karina Pedroza and Taylor Albert for winning First Place and Second Place respectively at the Club level of the Optimist International Essay Scholarship Competition. Karina and Taylor both won a monetary Scholarship and were awarded Olympic Style Medallions and Certificates for their participation. GISD At Magnet Schools Conference Apr 26 2024 Nearly 1,700 magnet school teachers, principals, and administrators from all corners of the country participated in the Magnet Schools of America (MSA) annual national conference in New York City. GISD was well-represented. BHS Competes in Oratorical Contest Apr 8 2024 Saturday March 23 rd the Galveston Noon Optimist Club held its annual Oratorical Contest in the Ocean & Coastal Science Bldg. Texas A&M-Pelican Island Campus. A TOR-RIF-FIC congratulations to Caroline Livanec and Karen Cuc who competed in their first HS Speech competition. Winners of the Grand Kids Festival Banner Contest Include Many GISD Students Mar 1 2024 The Grand 1894 Opera House proudly unveils the cosmic winners of the Maureen "Reenie" DiMare Banner Contest, conducted in conjunction with the 28th Annual Grand Kids Festival. GISD Robotics Competes in the U.S. Open Mar 22 2024 GISD had teams from Oppe, Parker, and Ball High competing, sending a total of 4 teams. Ball High’s 400C team did the best that they have done in about seven years, scoring the 2 nd highest skills score in their division. Ball High Students Advance to State in Swimming and Diving Mar 1 2024 The state swimming and diving competitions were held in Austin, Saturday, February 24th . Ball High was represented in each competition. Tor Senior Kai Jankowiak and Sophomore Sianna Acosta. 27 Ball High Choir Students Go to UI Solo and Ensemble, 19 Advance Feb 20 2024 Of the 27 Ball High choir students who participated in UIL Solo and Ensemble contest, 19 received Superior ratings and will advance to State. This will be the largest number of Ball High Musicians headed to State UIL Solo and Ensemble in decades. AIM Students Become Published Poets Dec 27 2023 A partnership between Galveston ISD and Iconoclasts Artists, out of Houston, has had an amazing impact on GISD students’ lives as well as their test scores. Students at AIM College and Career Prep Academy meet weekly with Bill Moran from Iconoclast to explore themselves and their thoughts through poetry. GISD students participate in bilingual competition in partnership with Galveston College, Dr. Zelaya Dec 15 2023 Galveston ISD’s bilingual department, in partnership with Galveston College and educational consultant and motivational speaker Dr. José Luis Zelaya, hosted the first Superlingual Max Finale recently. GISD Athletics Hosts Recognition Breakfast for Texas High School Coaches Day Nov 2 2023 GISD’s Athletics Department hosted a breakfast for the district’s hardworking coaches in recognition of Texas High School Coaches Day. Two Tor Volleyballers Named "Best and Brightest" Oct 31 2023 Ball High School Tor volleyball seniors Kate Lindamood and Chloe Stein were named to the AVCA Best and Brightest 1st Team for having a 4.3 weighted GPA or higher. They were 2 of only 700 athletes nationwide to receive this honor. Ball High Students Perform at State Speech Convention Oct 27 2023 Thanks to Ball High School’s veteran speech teacher, Michael Merritte, Galveston ISD and Ball High were recently on display for the entire state at the 2023 Texas Speech Communication Association Convention. GISD Student Completes Studies at AIM Campus as First Generation High School Graduate Oct 25 2023 Alexander Alfaro just met all the requirements to graduate from Galveston ISD’s AIM College and Career Preparatory School, and he’s going to walk the stage and receive his high school diploma during January’s commencement ceremony. He’ll be the first in his family to do so. Puccetti, Langevine Receive National Teacher of the Year Awards from Project Lead The Way Oct 25 2023 Ronald Puccetti, Central Middle School 8th grade CTE teacher, and Laurent Langevine, Ball High School CTE and aerospace instructor, are two of only 38 teachers across the U.S. to earn the 2023-24 Outstanding PLTW Teacher Award.
